Bali hadir dengan sejuta pesona, salah satu pesona itu hadir di Tanah Lot yang terletak di Desa Beraban Kecamatan Kediri Kabupaten Tabanan, sekitar 13 km barat Tabanan. Disinilah para wisatawan biasanya menyaksikan matahari terbenam (sunset) yang begitu indah. Obyek wisata Tanah Lot memiliki dua pura, yang satu terletak di atas bongkahan batu dan yang satunya terletak di atas tebing mirip dengan Pura Uluwatu. Pura Tanah Lot ini merupakan bagian dari pura Sad Kahyangan, yaitu pura-pura yang merupakan sendi-sendi pulau Bali. Pura Tanah Lot merupakan pura laut tempat pemujaan dewa-dewa penjaga laut.Keunikan pura ini antara lain adalah lokasinya yang berada diatas bukit batu besar pinggir laut. Pada saat air surut dan tingginya tidak lebih dari selutut, kita bisa menyebrang menuju tempat itu.Di sebelah utara pura, tepatnya di dalam gua bawah tebing, terdapat ular suci (holy snake) yang dikeramatkan. Di sana biasanya ada bapak-bapak yang duduk sambil membawa lampu senter di dalam goa. Ular tersebut berwarna hitam kuning, pipih dan beracun, dipercaya sebagai selendang Dang Hyang Nirartha yang terlepas saat sedang bertapa dan hingga kini menjadi penjaga pura. Biasanya disana muncul 2, 3 atau 5 ekor ular. Di tempat ini pula terdapat sumber air tawar bernama Tirta Pabersihan (biasa digunakan sebagai sarana memohon kesucian).
Para wisatawan dapat memegang ular tersebut sambil memanjatkan doa dalam hati. Berkaitan dengan hal tersebut, ada satu mitos di sana, yaitu apabila ada orang yang sedang berpacaran dan membawa pacarnya berkunjung ke Tanah Lot dan melihat ular tersebut, maka akan menyebabkan putusnya hubungan tersebut.
